I just want to make sure I'm doing everything right. She's had her dust bath, at which I have fresh water (bottled water) waiting for her. I know that she needs Timothy hay available at all times. A treat once a day (is that right?). She has Apsen bedding. I've removed all fruits from her pellet food. She has her place to hide. She is kept cooled at the right temperature. Has lots of room in her cage.
Oh! And I've been quietly talking to her and letting her sniff me out. Trying to bond to her before I get her out for playtime. (I've already been sprayed!) What is the best thing for her to chew on? What can she have to play with? I'm goin shopping for her today and getting the necessities.

Most of my chin shopping is done online as I do not like most toys available for chins in pet stores. She will need lots of wood to chew on, which you can check out the thread below and see who is listed as good sellers. What are you calling treats? no raisins, nothing sugary. You can look in the different sections here, and each section, almost all, have threads that have a "pin" at the top with great info on them. chinsnfriends.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=resourcestreat/food info: chinsnfriends.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=dietETA: I love shopping for my chins Oooh there are also some good do it yourself ideas on the one thread I posted, with how to make your own treats, and in the housing one, there is ideas on how to make your own fleece liners, and shelves.

For a treat, I have gave Bella a cheerio. I don't know how often she can have them, so to be on the safe side, she's only had 1 cheerio. And that was the only one she's had.
I'm so getting a pre-paid credit card Friday to order some wood! But...does Petsmart have anything that I could use till I get some wood?

They also have Bark Bites, those will hold her over until you can get something less expensive. www.keepyourchinupwood.com & www.petproductsbynature.com are the 2 best sources for chewing items, and buying in bulk from those nice ladies is LOTS cheaper than paying $4 for 4 twigs at Petsmart. Both of those sites have been in business for years and are 100% trustworthy.

Amanda- I buy things at PetSmart in a pinch and they sometimes have apple tree twigs. Newton liked those until I got wood from Sally (keepyourchinup) and Barbi (Pet Products by Nature). Now he snubs his nose at them! And I may have read it wrong, but you have fresh water for her all the time, right? Not just after a bath?

Well, I got her the apple twigs and some other type of twigs. She liked it at first then threw it down! I figured she just didn't like it. It wasn't long till I seen her chewing it again. She still doesn't chew on it that much. I gave her some of the other twigs and she kinda liked them. She loves her timothy hay!
Oh, and sillybebe, she constantly has fresh water. I messed my wording up on that!
I never knew how much fun a chinchilla can be! I gave her dust bath yesterday. She hopped right in. I sat near her and i could tell she wanted to play. But she doesn't quite trust me yet. Or so I thought! She started to slowly climb on me!!! ;DI was sooooo excited! She's quite the pusher when she wants something!!!!

Hahah! She definitely does as well as my boyfriends, too! He seen a cage at Petsmart yesterday that he really wants for her. So, I'm in the process of lookin for a bigger, better cage to buy for Bella.
Soooo, what's a good recommendation on a cage?

A ferret nation, a martins cage, or a quality cage.

I agree with Bethany above. I dont like the pet store cages. I have a Martins cage and it is great for Slippers, but I love my Ferret Nation cages.
What is she in now, if not a cage? I know you said the petstore didnt tell you she needed a cage. Is she in a tank?

I went through quite a few different types of cages and even built my own once, but I ended up with Ferret Nations and I'm never going back! Those are seriously the best bang for your buck. www.ferret.com/item/ferret-nation-habitat-model-142/630503/Sometimes PetsMart will price match, if you print that out and bring it down there to them! It's worth a shot, anyway. You need to take the plastic shelves out and replace them with wood, but the doors on that cage make it worth the modifications.

Amanda- I completely agree with the ladies about the Ferret Nation (FN) cages! They are so easy to clean and give so much room to the little fuzzbutts!

She's in a one level cage at the moment. It's enough room for her but I want her to have more than enough room! We don't have a stand for her cage so her cage is on the floor at the moment. Me and my boyfriend don't like it like that. But it's great for getting her bonding to us cuz she can hop out onto us and check us out without me picking her up.
Think I'll go with FN!

I got some little doggy steps from Walgreens and they fit perfectly under the FN, and my girls use that to get in and out at playtime.

I have 4 chins, 3 FN's. None of my chins share their FN's they are spoiled. SLippers has a large Martins Tower kind of cage.
