Not too wet, it was just really different than the pet store. When I got the chin I got a big bag with him and it was dry. So I just wanted to be sure it was ok.

It was probably a nice fresh bale of hay you picked up from the feed store. I know here, the pet store hay is brownish and really dry and crumbly. I have to order good hay online. I have picky chins lol

What did you buy? It you by chance got alfalfa from the feed store toss it. Alfalfa sweats, so it may have been okay when the feedstore got it and not moldy yet, but if it is wet it is not good now. Hay should be dry, it is just grass that has been dried out in the sun.

I'm slow as Christmas replying. If it was kaytee and rough and crumbly then that is not good to compare to. It should be pliable, but shouldn't be wet.

If you grab a handful and twist it should not break, if it does its pretty old.

Hey Tina, how are you? Hay doesn't have to be all green to be fresh, it's okay if there's brown in it too. At least that's what I've been told. Sometimes they put green colouring in it to make it look more appealing.

I have ordered hay from about every reputable hay producer (oxbow and APD usually), but there is always a little bit of brown stuff in there. I just pick around anything like that and if I miss something it doesn't really matter because none of my rotten little ones will eat any of that stuff anyway.
