I am just wondering.. I have read infos on the internet saying chins can get soft poops from stress, change of food, environment etc. what do I do if I get that?? Also what if I get diff sizes of poop what do I do? I just want to be really ready when this happens! As me and my boyfriend might switch to mazuri (can't afford feeding them oxbow yet.) they are on Reidstra right now. I am for sure planning to do the switching slowly.. Any thoughts guys?? Thanks in advance!

be sure to pick up some pet pectillin in the dog and cat medicine aisle at petsmart. That usually helps if they get soft poos from those issues.

Chins have Diff size poops dependant on time of day, what they ate, but the poop you want to watch for is very small looking and or very few droppings.

You can add some lifeline during the switch. I have always fed oxbow, and I currently have 7 chins. Since you can't buy directly from oxbow anymore, I feed half and half. I mix it by weight and not volume, and feed manna and oxbow. I can get the manna for $14 for 50#, and mix up 20 lbs, and feed the other 40# of manna to my rabbits. So far everyone is doing well on it.

Yeah! I totally wish oxbow was cheaper here.. 18.99 for a 10lb bag.. and im just a college student = dont have a lot of money! but for sure I will switch them after I graduate from college. Its always better to give them the BEST. I am just wondering though.. what is acidophilus for? can I use it too for loose poop?
OOPPSS! I forgot the 0 LOL! its suppose to be 10 not 1

$19 a # is crazy, I'm a poor college student as well, but even if I wasn't I totally wouldn't pay that. The acidophilus just keeps the good bacteria in their belly. Any species I have that gets scours or is under stress I will give them some form of acidophilus. When you switch their food or stress them it can cause the good bacteria to die. So basically you are giving them good bacteria.

Hey Abby, have you talked to Tanya about getting feed from her? Or Flowertown? Flowertown sells Oxbow for 10.75 for 5lbs and 17.25 for 10 lbs. The Mazuri is cheaper. You do have to pay shipping still though, but maybe not too bad within your own province. www.chinchilla.ca/list.php?Category=F&source=feed

Just curious why manna is being fed to healthy chins in a pellet mix?

I wondered that too Dawn but I'm thinking Bethany means Manna Show Pro rabbit pellets?? She says she feeds the same stuff to her rabbits

I know years ago manna mixed with food was all the rage, pretty much now its not done, so you most likely are right, its manna rabbit food, not calf manna.

I was going to ask that same question! But then I remembered about the Manna Pro Show or whatever it's called.

Yes the rabbit, not the calf manna, it's just cause it is cheaper. The deciding factor for me to do it was when I went to petsmart (the only place I can get oxbow now) and they were out of chin food. I have always feed it to my rabbits anyways, and never run out of it.

That works, I know alot of people who mix foods for that reason.
