Okay guys! As most of you know I am just a new chin owner. I have questions about how much of these I can give them in a day. Here are the list: Raisin (once a week? or never?) Rosehips - a piece of rosehip per day?? a pinch of crushed rosehips per day? Apple Pomace - Shredded Wheat (no sugar) Cranberry Fibre Pumice Supplement (here is the site I get it from www.chinchilla.ca/items.php?ProductID=CRNPM05&Name=Minerals%20&%20Supplements&source=feed ) Cheerios - 1 or 2 times a day that I know. If you have other treats that I forgot you can just add it on with your comment ;D Please and Thanks! I am asking this because I want to make sure I am not giving too much of a certain treat. Also, I am going to start to make a schedule in a way that they will get a different treat everyday. Another question... Can you feed them 2 kind of treats in a day or is it too much? Thanks Guys!

IMO, raisins, never,
I stay away from wheat products. I give whole oats and old fashioned rolled oats.
I would say no more then one treat per day. I give like one or 2 whole oats to the chins each night. Chins under 6 months get no treats.
I also do not think you need the Cranberry Pumice supplement. You can use Lifeline as a once a week treat ;D

NO raisins, is what everybody will say I am guessing. They can cause a lot of GI isuues and are not worth the risk. I personally give a treat every second day or so, and that would be either a rosehip, or pinch of oats. I give apple sticks everyday. Those are loved as much as anything else and you can't overdo it with those!!

My guys get a treat everynight, but it varies from a "oats cookie" or a cookie from Theresa, or sticks, or treats I get from Camphor Chins,or rosehips. But only one a night when they go in from playtime.

I do a baby-spoonful of oats & crushed rosehips every night, it makes them happy to get back in the cages, and you can easily tell if somebody's appetite is off that way. A chin who refuses oats has tummy issues. Tami has wheat allergies, so I stay away from shreddies and cheerios, too. I keep loads of different kinds of sticks on hand - apple, crabapple and mulberry. Those are what I use for "treats" all day when I'm checking on my babies.

All I can get from here are pet store apple sticks or from this site (http://www.chinchilla.ca/list.php?Category=P&source=acces) I don't even know where to buy safe wood in bulk here for my babies!! oh how I wish I live near Sally! . I just give them apple sticks. Thanks for the tip Kara! I would be able to buy oats from grocery stores right? ( BTW- how to do I know its not the instant one? )

Tanya has almost everything you will ever need, I think. Buy the oats that say "Old Fashioned" across the front.

I give mine a rosehip one night and Shredded Wheat the next night. I use it as a test to see if they are eatting. Mine know the sound of the box and the bag opening and they are right at the front of their cage waiting for their Shredded Wheat its cute to see their little faces waiting for their treat. if I miss a night I know about it too.
I was just wondering if Lifeline was something I should get and give more of?

Marilynn, I used it here when Fuzzy was dropping weight, and liked it so much I now give it to them on the weekends as a special treat. You dont need to have it, but it is (stealing from Dawn here) an enrichment. Just gives them variety and it isnt bad for them

I give each boy a pinch of rolled oats and rose hips every night when they go back into their cage. All I have to do is make the motion to get up and reach for the container and the boys are already in their house waiting. Sometimes, I just get up and reach for something close to their cage and they're already in there waiting. I'm like, it's not 'that' time yet boys, lol. They'd all be so mad at me if they didn't get their pinch of oats each night. I actually made a special trip out today to get some new oats b/c I wasn't looking forward to the boys being mad at me.

No raisins ever here. It was late at night when I discovered that Olli was not pooping and there was no one on here and the internet said to try raisins to get the GI tract moving. Of course when I get answers on here (the correct ones), the raisins cause more trouble with the sugar then they solve. Nothing was getting past that stone he had anyway.
My hubby has a serious issue with giving the chins cherrios and not just one, lemme say. I don't really like to give them to many shreadies, because they really come in handy if there is a case of loose stools or diarrhea. Most of them LOVE rosehips and oats are a big hit here. I get the apple peel things (pomice?) from Carise and they go nuts, but I try and break them in half because they are big. I also get banana chips from Carise as well and all 16 of my chins love those. Mrs. pastures cookies are good as well.
They get a treat at least once every other day. If I accidentally reach under Ginger and Snap's cage I am done because that's where their treats are and they know and when they run to the front for a treat, it starts a chinnie chain reaction and chins that were in a dead sleep are now awake and begging. You cannot just give one chin a treat either. Hubby tried and laughed at me when I said you're done and all of a sudden 15 other little faces were staring at him. Who's laughing now, now you gotta give them all a treat, lol.
