I LOVE Nil Odor - it does exactly what the name implies. I wipe my pans down with that EVERY night, and then do a spritz with water afterwards, and I never ever smell a thing in those cages. This is my second choice: www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2753347Not nearly as good, but it will do in a pinch. I never tried the PetCo stuff you posted, and don't know anyone who has. Most people just use vinegar and water, but vinegar's smell makes me want to barf.

I just saw you said you would use them ON the fleece liners - fleece repels moisture, so you can't spritz it with anything, it won't soak in. The easier way is to clean the pan underneath and that does the job of getting rid of the smells, AND the chins are never directly ON anything that has the cleaner on it.

I was hoping you would come along I'm actually looking for something in a "pinch" because ordering anything else at this point won't get here in time. If those most of the pet store ones are ok, then I'll probably get that to work for now. It's absolutely EMBARRASSING how much I've spent on the boys already (don't get me wrong, TOTALLY worth it) but I need to stop for now. March is a whole new month....and a whole new month for shopping too... ETA: Gotcha on using it on the pans, thank you! I need all the tips I can get....I'm a little worried about smell. Going out shopping for the last few things!

I dont know that I would want to spray anything on the liners that the chins would have to sit on. I would just wipe the pans down as Kara suggested.

I also used it on blankets when I had puppies it gets out the urine smell...anyways could I use it on the fleece when I through it in the washer?

My mom uses it in her iron, and I want to gag everytime I hug her lately. There is always a hint of vinegar in her clothes.

My mom uses it in her iron, and I want to gag everytime I hug her lately. There is always a hint of vinegar in her clothes. eewww!!! She must love pickles!! I use the vinegar in the wash machine about every other time that I wash the liners, by the time the rinse cycle rinses it out I don't smell a thing. The vinegar would smell if it wasn't rinsed out but since it is rinsed it doesn't smell. Also I use laundry soap, usually All Free and Clear due to my 3 year old daughter's allergies. I was using the Pine bedding for a week but she had a few terrible asthma attacks this week and I think it was from the pine. I am going back to fleece and am going to get the Nil Odor. I don't know of anything safe that you could spray on the liners-- if you find out please let me know as my girls smell after one day!!

It's more about keeping the pan odor free than the liners, found that out the hard way. As long as you clean the pan a lot, the smell doesn't linger.

Vinegar smell totally makes me want to rush off and buy a huge basket of fries! I use hot water with a tiny bit of Dettol added to the bucket and I spray the stains on the wooden shelves with hydrogen peroxide and then since well.

Dettol is like Lysol, right? We don't have that here!

No, it's not like Lysol or Pinesol, it's used as an antiseptic. We're from a British background so everyone has Dettol in their house. Let me look up some info on it and then I can tell you more.

Hmm, well now I'm not so sure if I should be using it or not. I know I only put a half teaspoon in per gallon, so it's a tiny amount but maybe I shouldn't bother. I pretty much grew up on Dettol and it's used a lot for cleaning as well as cleaning wounds etc. I know they sell huge bottles here at the feed store to be used in barns and such. I'd be interested in hearing others' opinions on this. I've always had Dettol on hand since I can remember. triunemeditech.net/dettol.aspx

I've heard John Barrowman say he scrubbed his mouth out with it before, so I always assumed it was really mild. I just wasn't sure WHAT it was.

I use vinegar and a touch of peroxide in the laundry. When it comes out it smells fresh and clean and there's no hint of vinegar smell left on the fabric.

I have used that clean cage stuff that Kara posted as her second choice, and it works okay... but it does say on the bottle something to the effect of not using it anywhere near where the animal will be eating etc which might just be a disclaimer to keep them out of trouble if someones animal goes drinking the stuff up... or it could mean that it is known to be harmful. There's lots of stuff out there that I'm sure will work nicely, just with everything, no matter what I use... I always make sure to rinse with water. I have been using diluted hydrogen peroxide lately and I am really pleased with it. Surprisingly it eliminates odor pretty well off of shelves etc.

Hmmm I use a water/vinegar mix to clean cages. I think I am going to try the Nil stuff. Is that something you can buy somewhere?? Or do you order it online???
