I just got a new vacuum, and it turned out to be very loud. My old vacuum scared Isabella, and I'm sure this one will terrify her. I put her in another room when I vacuum, but it's only a door away. The first time I use my new one I plan on having my boyfriend sit with her to help calm her down. Is there any other way I can make this less stressful on her? I'd just let her get used it it, but I worry about her seizing from getting too worked up.

I have one chinchilla that is just terrified of the vacuum noise, and I've tried everything... he just hates it. The others could really care less. I don't know what to tell you about your baby though. She certainly is a different circumstance than my chinchilla because mine that is afraid of the vacuum doesn't have seizures and such. I would just have your boyfriend sit with her like you said and see how she does over a very short period of time... take a break... and repeat... and see how she does like that. Maybe breaking it up into small sessions would give her a break and make it less stressful on her. Then hopefully over time each session could go longer and longer until you could vacuum the whole room without her getting too stressed over it.

That sounds like good advice to me, Sara. I always start at the back of the house, so that the noise is low and far away, and by the time I get to the front where the chins are, they are used to the noise. It doesn't bother them at all.

Sounds like you got great advice already. My boys don't mind the vacuum until I move their cages, and then it's like, "OMG, the world is coming to an end!!!" They chill out again as soon as I move their cages back where they belong. Silly boys.

Mine don't seem to mind the vacuum either... I actually have one (bailey) who will chase the vacuum...

Lou is the only one, I have sucked his butt. I use the vacuum every day or at the every other day. I even use the hose in the cage, as long as there are no kits in the cage. lol

both of mine get nervous with the vacuum - sticking their noses out of the bars, so I put it up to their face so they could feel it (the hose with the brush - non -revolving) and Kiwi is not so stressed anymore. Bella will run to the opposite side of the cage from where I am though.

Sophie's curious with the vacuum, but not very scared (I guess she's a brave girl). I do have other animals that are terrified of the vacuum which makes me feel bad because I don't want to scare them, but I would like a clean house! Basically we have some sit with the animal and do one part of the room at a time. It has gotten better, but I think it takes a while for them to realize they're not going to get hurt by it if they're scared.

My dog Bella is the only one who is scared of the vacuum here. She was a foundling, so I have no idea WHY it scares her. She goes find Jake and sits in his lap until I am finished. Halfway through my routine he starts yelling "Mom, are you almost done?! Bella won't get off me!!"

haha... My rabbit got his face sucked once and it scared me worse than him... He just sat there and didn't move... One of his little loppy ears was sucked up and everything! He just always has this "DUH" expression though. Even when he should be scared.

My guy has absolutely no issue with the vacuum. When I take out his fleece liner I actually vacuum the bottom of the cage. He just sits there and watches (from the bottom of the cage, not the top so he definitely isn't scared). I have to be careful not to vacuum him since he often comes really close to it to investigate (if he isn't having his free time).

Fuzzy and Slippers do not mind the vacuum, Gabby just runs on her wheel till I am done! Tara, I call that "running away from home." It's so funny how they try to run from something or to something by getting on the wheel. I'm lucky, mine don't mind the vacuum and even play too close to it sometimes while I'm cleaning the room. I have to watch them while I'm vacuuming so there aren't any "drive-bys."

It is funny as heck when they run like they are going to get away, I always say "How is that working for you chinchilla???"
