Ok I make these cookies for the dogs I don't add raisins or nuts for the dogs but if the chins can have them then I'll add the raisins for them.
1 cup butter, softened 2 eggs 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 2 cups all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon salt 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon 3 cups quick cooking oats raisins or nuts (optional)
is there anything that I should not even think of feeding my chin in these? Right now their favorite treat is dried apples or Rose hip.

also if anyone has a list of safe foods for them if you could please let me know what they are or point me in the direction of the web site. I would love to start playing around and making treats for them as well. I already make dog and cat treats.

Oh and for chins, use the old fashion oats not quick oats

cinnamon is the only thing they can have with that recipe, the other items they cannot digest. Stick with things with no sugar, the apples you give are not good for chins and raisins also are not good. Nothing sweet, by adding sugar to a chins digestive system you run the risk of the bacterial balance used for digestion being sent out of whack-the bacteria will feed on the sugar and they byproduct is gas-chins cannot burp and will get bloat and that can kill a chin in as little as 12 hours. This can come out of the blue even if you fed your chins apples every day and we do not know how many dead chins there are that were not diagnosed since very few chins have been necropsied. I have dealt with bloat on several chins for other reasons than sugar and its one of the worst things that can ever happen to a chin. My vet equates the pain with slicing the chin open with no pain meds.

oh no the most they get is the Rose Hips and that was every other night that is how I was working with them to come to me (that is why the little girl would just run up to me like she use to). The apples are only when I do liver treats for the dogs and that is maybe once a month. I havn't feed them anything like that yet only because I'm still learning what they can and can't have.

Here's my favorite thing, Marilynn, and the chins go BONKERS for it. Just mix some rolled oats (the old fashioned kind) and some crushed rose hips together in a little treat jar, and give them each a baby sized spoonful every night after playtime. It's a great incentive for them to go back in the cage for a treat!

I would be using not for them to go back to their cage but to come into my hands and come to me...As Pam said Bribery is a great way to get a chin to come to you

Yep, I agree! And having that tiny tongue on your hand is too cool. I like to let my girls eat out of my hand sometimes.

I'm going to try to make those treats this weekend. Thank you Tara for the recipe. I might also see if the small pet store that I sell my dog treats to will want to buy them for chin owners too Also what kind of sticks can I use and any suggest on where to get them?
Will those work for rats and other small animals too?

Check out the treats section here. Or check Sally's (keep your chin up) profile, and click on her banner, I know she has a list of safe woods to use There might be a thread about how to make the sticks, but I think it is a pain, so I always just order from Sally lol! She is the local wood pimp!

but she is in the states...I need a wood pimp in Canada LOL I don't mind doing things that are a pain in butt. I already do that with the dog treats...I have trashed so much stuff because I will play around with things. My most popular treat is a mess up that everyone loves and is a royal pain in the butt to make

As long as you know the wood has never been sprayed with any pestisides you might be able to find someone with some apples trees that will let you clip some branches. Apple wood is a favourite. The branches need to be scrubbed, boiled and baked till they are very dried out.
You can also use that recipe Tara mentioned without the sticks I believe and just make tiny drop size cookies.
The only treat I use here are oats and rosehips and of course all the wood sticks my chins want.

Just another idea for the cookies... Sometimes I hold on to the dust feed on the bottom of the pallet container and make cookies out of them. All you need to do is add powdered old fashion oats and a little bit of water to it so it becomes like cookie dough. Then bake it like you would for little cookies. They think it's something new, but they're just eating feed mixed with a little bit of oat flavor. You can also add in crush rose hips or hay and such to make it more appealing. Always remember to feed in moderation.

That dust is also good to save to suppliment feeding if you are in a pinch with no CC on hand.
