vinegar and water. You can use it on the carpet and on the shelves. Sand the shlelves down. Otherwise, if the smell persists I can only recommend replacing them.

And that's the shelves she means to replace, not the chins. Cai, Dirt Devil makes a solution for their Spot Scrubber machines, and you don't even really need the machine. Buy the cleaner and dilute it with warm water, get a rag and scrub the carpet. It takes away stains and smells.

I use Natures Miracle Odor Remover for any urine on the carpet. It's an enzyme cleaner I used to use for my doggie when he got older and had accident issues. It works on any odor and stain. I wouldn't use it on anything in the cage though.

Sounds like others have given you some good advice on how to get the smell out of carpet. Me, I couldn't stand battling with it anymore so I ripped the carpet out and went down to the concrete. Works great! Not sure if you're renting or not, so if you are, you better check with your landlord before you rip anything out, lol.

O no, have fun with that Cai! I am glad Fuzzy's pee isnt too obnoxious! He has peed all over the hard wood floor, but I can mop that up.

If you get a back light you will be able to see where the smell is coming from. I use Resolve when Gizmo decides to pee on the carpet when he out for play. Works great and always gets the urine and smell out.

my chin was doing that, so i got a sheet and put it on the back of the cage, so it wouldn't hit the wall cuz it stains.

Misty..there was a post in Chinchillaworld about ideas to retrain to not pee on the shelves but I cant' find it anywhere..can you? I just read it recently too...I'm such an idiot...but some suggestions were to put bedding with urine in a bowl and place it where your chin pees on the shelf then move it, or place a toy in it's place so he can't access that corner..there were many ideas about it. Kara help me find that post! Or if anyone else has ideas about how to retrain a chin to pee on the bedding.. mine has always peed bottom level so I cant' help there But what I can suggest is..placing a large mat under your cage to catch the pee that may be escaping the cage..that way you can take it outside and hose it down?

We have quite a few threads about that here, as well - I don't think I saw the one on CW yet. None of that ever worked on Amy, she would shove the litter pan out of the way to pee behind it on the shelf. I'm hoping the liners give her a thrill by peeing on fleece instead....

What do you do if your cage is a lil stinky? I never use to have this problem up until the past few weeks. Chi Chi pees in her pan,and well Layla I think pees everywhere on the bottom floor. When she was housed by herself,it never smelt. Do chins perhaps have a problem with peeing in the same pan? Would it help to put in two seperate litter pans? I clean it once a week thoroughly and spot clean here n there in the week when I can. It seems to be the same two spots and hay gets stuck in it *Bleck!* I've dilluted down soap with water, and then rinsed the pans in the cage with hot water after. They still smell funky. Any ideas?
Cai did you ever have any luck figuring out where it was comming from?

She might be feeling territorial and marking it. I always had 2 seperate litter pans for Amy & Sally, but Amy wouldn't use either of them. You could try it. I use Nil Odor to wipe down my pans, and then a wet paper towel over that to rinse. It takes away ALL the smell.
