Should have known something was fishy (well, too many things were fishy) when the woman already had the "boys" packed up in the taped up box for me when I arrived. The lighter mosaic (father) is definitely male, and the darker mosaic (-supposedly SON - HAH!), is FEMALE. Apparently these two have been in the same GD cage since the kit was born in 2004. After four years, is there any chance these two will produce offspring, or do I need to shop for another cage? I am SERIOUSLY miffed at this woman. These two really needed to be rescued and now I have to tell hubby it may be yet another cage, or attempting to get her in with Chinta and Tink once quarantine is over and pray she isn't pregnant. I haven't even been able to tell hubby yet because he's asleep.

Is it possible that a pair just won't breed even if in the same cage? According to the person my chins came from they've been housed together for over a year and never produced ktis, and she said she has tried them with other chins and they just weren't compatible. *shrug* I'm not sure myself..
Hey, I'd be really upset too but it just goes to prove how BADLY those chins needed to be out of her care..

That's what I've heard too Heather...But then, the thought of the offspring and parent doing it is disturbing. I just don't know!

I got a pair, male and female, from a breeder and he said they haven't produced any kits for the year that they have been together. Well, a year and a half later, they produced 2 kits for me. So, it is possible that father/daughter already mated. In my case, the pair I have are slow breeders. I since separated the two because if you don't want kits, you have to separate male and female whether it takes months and years for them to produce, they will eventually.

Hang in there JAQ - we'll get this settled yet. Maybe it will work out with your 3 girls and Yang can live by himself?

Thanks Teresa.
I'll have to leave one in the smaller Hagen cage then, move one into the big cage I just acquired, and then after quarantine, hope I can get Yin in with the girls. :/ And pray she is NOT pregnant now.

What about the possibility of castration? You could inquire at your vet's office see if they have any experience.

I'm so sorry, JAQ. This is not the happy story I expected to read about your "boys" tonight. Don't cry! We're all here for you and will see you through this awkward situation. I pray she isn't pregnant and it will just be a matter of separating them. Keep reminding yourself these chins really need you and you will make an even bigger difference in their lives than you imagined.

AWE sorry JAQ that really is frustrating. They def. need to be separted. Travis is neutered and the only time he goes at it with Shanna is during her cycle. She can be pretty damanding of poor little Travie....

That's what I've heard too Heather...But then, the thought of the offspring and parent doing it is disturbing. I just don't know! It is gross, but you have to remember that these ARE chins. Most mammals do not have the sense of right and wrong, or morality if you prefer, that humans have. To them it is not dirty or disgusting, it is what it is, instinct. I, of course, still think it is just plain nasty! EWWW!!
