Thank you Christiane, I am having a cage made and I need to let them know what size to make the cut out on my full floor. Since most of you have the fn cage I figured that must be a good size for a chinchilla to get through. I am not going to have a ramp I am going to use wooden shelves ( like Kara did) in step formation for her to get up there. In your opinion is this enough room or would you go bigger? Also do you like that the cutout is in the corner ( some cages have it in the middle) Thank you

It's plenty big enough for them to comfortably fit through, without "falling" through it accidentally. I like that it's in the corner because it gives me a lot of room on the main area of the pan to put hutches, litter pans, etc., without having to work around a hole in the middle. I also think it makes running around in the cage flow more naturally for the chins. When they go tearing through the cage at top speed, they go in a spiral from the bottom to the top and vice versa, and having the hole in the corner makes it flow like a spiral staircase for them to run.

What would be your opinion on a square hole instead of rectangle. Like a 8" x 8" Thanks

Chins are rectangular in body size, longer than they are wide, so I think that is why they went with a rectangular cut out.

Um. . .Actually I was getting a laugh off of Kara's chinchilla Patty. Sorry if you misunderstood it and found it offensive. I thought your question was a valid one and am in no way judging you by asking it.

It's a running joke about my fat chinchilla, not directed to you at all, Marie.

Crazygoalie,
No one was laughing at you! No need to snap at Leah.
We are a small group of friends who consider each other family. There are a lot of inside jokes.
