Ember turned 1 years old the other day! And Misty's birthday is right around the corner They are doing great, even with the puppy around! I have loved seeing them develop their own personalities over the past year, which continues to be so evident everyday. Any birthday present ideas? ? As I understand, when they turn 1 years, you restrict pellets. How much should I be giving them every day?

No you don't restrict pellets. There's rarely an occasion that you would do that. they should be getting as much as they want. If they are emptying their bowl in a day, you aren't feeding enough. I use a Dixie bathroom cup and fill it and dump in to bowls. They won't over eat like a dog might. Happy birthday to the babies!!! Need more pics!!!!

Mazuri recommends two tablespoons of pellets per day, per chin. Start with that and if you think they need a little more, go for it. You don't want to be wasting oodles of pellets, but you don't want the bowl empty, either. Happy birthday, pretty babies!!

The Dixie cup is an awesome idea. I took an old plastic Mardi Gras cup (since we have tons of those lying around, lol) and I measured 4 tablespoons of pellets into it, and made a marker line, then I cut the cup down to that line. Now I have my own premeasured scoop! BTW, my Patty McFatty eats a 2-chin serving of pellets every day!! And also a 2-chins serving of hay. She's a BIG girl, she needs more than most regular chins, lol. Of course, she also poops and pees as much as 2 chins....

OK, thanks. the girls do eat a lot, and tip their bowl over if there isn't enough food. (I even have a ceramic bowl inside another ceramic bowl to hold it down but they still tip it.) So basically theres a rule of thumbon tablespoons for chins, but you should give them whatever they need and never let the bowl go dry? I Will try to post pictures soon... they are all on my phone.

Same with hay, give a generous handful every day, and if they eat it all, give them a bit more. It's only treats that you want to limit, and of those, you should only give a tiny bit a couple times a week. Make sure you are measuring out the pellets for the next few days, to be sure they are getting at least 4 tablespoons. (or more if they need it)

Thank you! They actually have never had any treats... unless sticks count as a treat. I hope not, because then they are definitely getting too many. (Misty is a little obsessed.) I was hoping to maybe get some friendly treats for their birthday though

Stick with oats and rose hips, you can't go wrong with that! Quaker Old Fashioned Slow Cook Oats in the red and blue can at the grocery. Rose hips come cut and sifted: www.herbalcom.com/store.php3?list=cats&alpha=yes&lett=r-tR-T&session=83e9205b1763ba8ccfc408a760a2d90e(scroll halfway down to rosehips c/s and you can buy it by the pound.) Or you might be able to find them at a local herb shop or whole food market. I like to mix the oats and rose hips in an empty jar (peanut butter ones work great) and then use a baby spoon to dispense the treats, that way I know they are getting the same tiny amount every time.
