I know I'm not new at owning chinchillas, but I was wondering something. If you have only had girl chinchillas for YEARS and then you bring a boy into the picture (separate cage, play time, etc), will your girls behavior change?
And the other way around, too. If you have all boys as pets and you bring a girl home (again, separate everything), will your boys behavior change?

I have only boys but have heard that boys can get aggressive towards each other when you bring a girl in. Not sure about the other way around.

I have only girls but have also heard that it is usually boys that change. That said, I don't believe it's all males. It sort of depends on their personality to begin with. I know people who house boys and girls in the same room with no problems at all.

We had only boys and then we brought home a girl. Fuzzy went nuts. It took weeks for him to stop being a jerk.

Never had any boys here, but Amy goes bonkers anytime a new chin comes into the house. Usually by the time quarantine is over she is calmer, but then when the new chin starts having playtime in the chin room and she can SEE them, she gets a little loony again. She's very territorial, but eventually she settles down and gets used to it.

I do not believe it has anything to do with the gender. When I reorganize my herd, the more territorial animals they will react to animal and not the gender. Like Shawn has mentionned, I also believe personnality is a big factor in their reaction.

I had four boys, and two of them became aggressive when I got a girl. The other two didn't really care. I agree with Christiane, personality most likely has a lot to do with it!
