Hello! I brought my two kits home on Sunday. I'm trying to follow the standards for easing their transition, like not letting them run around right away and letting them adjust to their new surroundings, but I'm worried I might be being too aggressive. One is very shy and hides whenever I'm around. The other is very curious and will come out. I put my hand in the cage, and the curious one comes right up to it. The other one wants nothing to do with me. I know it's still very early, but how do you think I should approach them the next week or so?

Thank you.
I have read that page, and a few others very similar. I guess I have 2 specific questions.
1. Ember is more curious. If my hand is out, she will come out to see what's going on and jump on my hand. Misty is still scared and runs away. Should I still be interacting with Ember since she is more comfortable. Or will doing this freak Misty out more and I should wait until they are both comfortable to go on to the next "step".
2. If I have been more aggressive in trying to interact with Misty, do I just start from the beginning or has it caused damage and I should be trying a different approach.
Again, it's only been a few days and I don't expect much at this point, but I just want to do this right without freaking Misty out any more.

At this point I think you are "over thinking" it, lol. If you have it set up so that they can come out of the cage on their own, they will be a lot more secure for playtime, since they can also run back in if spooked. You can either put the cage on the floor or use doggy steps, or stackable bins to make it easy for them to get in and out. Just hang out in the room with them and let them come to you. it really goes much smoother and also faster if you don't force it. Ember is going to bond first with you, but Misty will follow quickly.

PS - if you do introductions on the board for yourself and for your chins (with photos!) I can make you a signature banner. Just need chin pics, your first name and your favorite color.

Thank you! haha I probably am. :/ I've spent months preparing for these little guys and feel I've done every thing right so far. No plastic. No tap water. No rasins. Etc. I just want to make sure I do this right. I will try to take some good pictures tonight. Thanks

Then just try to relax and enjoy them! It's like being a first time mom, you worry and stress over every detail, but babies are just happy and clueless.

Soooo it's been almost 2 weeks since I got my girls! Ember is starting to come around. She likes to play around 1 a.m. I can open the cage, put my hands out and she'll jump up no problem. Any other time of the day? She has no interest. But I've very excited that she's learning and accepting me. Even when I put her back, she jumps right back on for more fun. Misty on the other hand is still not interested too much with me. She'll come up to my hand and sniff but that's about it. I can touch her/pet her with a finger or two, but then runs if I try to pet with my whole hand (big scary shadow, perhaps). Could this be because she is 2 weeks younger than Ember, or is it her personality, or does she just need a lot more time? Any suggestions to get her more comfortable with me? I AM extremely happy of how well they get along! I was so nervous we'd have to buy two of everything to get a new cage.. but boy do these girls LOVE eachother. They sleep in the hammock together every night and are alwaysss getting along. Let's hope they keep this up!

1AM is like the middle of their "day" loll!! Since they are so young, you probably won't have ANY issues with them fighting for quite a while. When they get to be 6-9 months, puberty will kick in and they will squabble a little to settle the dominance issue, but since they are girls, you will probably only have kacking and spraying going on. Fun, fun, fun!! Misty may always be more reticent than Ember, that may just be her personality. Or she may eventually come around. Just don't let it affect how much YOU love HER, if you know what I mean. I had to do that with my Sally, I decided I loved her enough for both of us, and eventually (okay, it took about 4 years, lol) she decided to love me back.

Thanks Well I hope they get along post-puberty, then... with limited kacking and spraying. Oh, they are both so cute. I know I'll always love them 10 times more than they do to me. Baby steps with her, I suppose.
