Chins-N-Friends is primarily a pet owner forum. Although everyone is welcome to join, not all memberships will be approved. If your application is denied, it may be for one of the following reasons:
Age Restrictions - We require our members to be 18 or over on this forum. We do not recommend a chinchilla as a pet for a younger child, as chins are fragile and expense to keep. We also have certain threads with inappropriate content for children, such as necropsy photos.
Overpopulation - At certain times, we restrict memberships in an effort to expand proportionately to our staff's capabilities.
Foreign IP Addresses - Applicants with IP's in other countries are usually denied. We have found on other forums that the concepts of what constitutes good chinchilla care varies greatly from country to country. What is acceptable in Spain (for example) may be considered unacceptable in America. In addition, we would be unable to advise a member in another country about proper chin care, having no idea of what is available to them in their area. In an effort to avoid future conflicts and misunderstandings, our member base is therefore restricted to the U.S. and Canada.
The Breeding/Pelting Issue - We are not a "pelting neutral" forum. In fact, we are VERY anti-pelting. Sometimes larger breeders who do not pelt themselves are still sympathetic to the ranchers who pelt, and may take offense at our anti-pelting stand. For this reason, we allow only small hobby breeders who also rescue to join this forum. (We also place a limit on how many breeders are allowed on this forum at any one time, to keep it a mostly pet oriented group.)
Spamming - We have gotten a few applicants already who joined only to post SPAM. If an applicant has what appears to be a "dummy" (fake) e-mail account, the application may be denied under the suspicion of potential spamming.
This is a privately owned forum. We reserve the right to deny any applicant at any time, at our own discretion. We also reserve the right to remove any membership at any time, at our own discretion.
