I've been reading through several posts and was just curious about liners/bedding?? We currently use the aspen, but I've seen fleece liners in pictures and also pans that people have? I was curious cause if fleece liners are ok (do you just wash them when they are dirty I assume?) I would much prefer using them than dealing with the aspen and stuff. Same thing goes for the pans, do you just not put anything on them and then just clean them off?
THANK YOU!! ;D

I'm guessing you are looking at the metal pans in our Ferret Nations? Those come from www.bassequipment.com and are much deeper than the plastic pans that come with the cage. Plus, you want to get all the plastic out anyway, so metal is better. I switched to fleece liners for a few reason. I got tired of bedding being all over the floor every morning, and hauling out a full garbage bags worth of bedding once a week. The biggest reason was my chin Tami, who HATES stepping on litter. She was used to a wire bottom cage, and moving her into the Ferret Nation was traumatic for her. The liners solved that issue. I got a bones from it as well, my girl Amy used to like to pee on the shelves frequently. Since I switched to liners, she rarely does that anymore. She likes peeing on the liners! I used only 2 layers of fleece with nothing in the middle for absorbancy, so I have to change mine every other day or they smell. I have 2 sets, and I just switch them out regularly. I wash them twice in Tide w/ Bleach. Also, don't use fabric softener - fleece absorbs moisture and stays dry on top like a diaper, but the fabric softener stops it from doing that. Every night I take the liner out, shake everything off of it, wipe down the pan underneath with a deoderizer and put the liner back in. Every other night, I also change the liner. If you add a middle absorbant layer like quilted cotton or a towel, you can leave the liner in a few days longer at a time.

Fleece liners are ok. You need to make sure there's an absorbent middle between the two layers of fleece (i.e. terry cloth). You do wash them when they get dirty with hot water, soap, and NO fabric softener. The fabric softener makes the fleece less likely to wick away the fluid.
I'm a fan of aspen bedding, but have used liners recently. I changed mine out every other day. I'd also shake the hay and poop onto the pan and then clean out the pan daily.
Get ready for the smell of pee though. Baz's pee didn't absorb very fast on the liner and I could always smell pee when I walked in the room.

It's the pan underneath, if you can wipe that down every day, the smell doesn't linger.

I used liners with Newton, but I didn't do a good job of making them and they didn't make it through the wash! The second time I misjudged the size and it was too small...so on to my third try (and I haven't had time)! But until then I switched him back to kiln dried pine bedding...AND the mess (although it is definitely better with the 4" deep pan!)

I love love love my fleece liners! I hated dealing with bedding and poop all over the floor, I mean of course there is still poop everywhere, just not the bedding. I think they are so easy, I shake them off outside to get all the hay and poop off and throw them in the washer.

i use liners in my cages but i also use a litter box with aspen shavings. some ppl just do the liners and no litter boxes. i find most of my chins like to pee in the shavings so it keeps the liners cleaner if they constantly pee in the litter box and then i only have to change that instead of the liners every other day. i wash my liners once a week but i could probably go longer bc they dont get all smelly with pee.

I do the same as Tracy. Tanya made me sweet black liners with skulls, so you can't even see the poo, and I have a litter box with aspen shavings. I left the middle level in my Ferret Nations in so I have 3 sets of top and 3 sets of bottom liners. I vacuum them out daily with my awesome Dyson hand vac, and wash them every 3-4 days. The Bass pans look like they are pretty good to use too, I just didn't try them cause shipping to Canada would probably cost me a lot.

Grandview is great Sani. Brian is super fast. He doesn't make the middle pan though. I bought my middle pan from someone near Barrie. I'd have to look up the name.
