I give my chins tough love! I pick them up and talk gently and give them smooches, whether they like it or not. Dawn, didn't know I was doing it the right way!

Its why hand fed chins that are fed for awhile become love bugs, they trust you.

Wouldn't they hate you if you still decided to cuddle even though they don't like it/ not yet ready for it? I tried, they just ran all over the place.

They won't hate you, the more you handle them the less afraid they are. Think about it, if you never handle them how will they know you won't hurt them? At first that is what they think, so they will squirm and wiggle and want to get away, but after awhile they know you won't hurt them and they become calm. Its better to have a tame chin in a health crisis than a chin who is sick and also thinks you are going to eat them.

I agree, the more you handle them the more they will get used to it. You really need to be able to pick your chin or chins up in the case of an illness. Mine get handled daily, they don't have a choice in the matter. Sooner or later they will get used to it and calm down.
Remember that your energy will get conveyed to your chin. Stay calm, relaxed and soothing and they will slowly respond back the same way.

i spent over 3 months handfeeding Chloe and she went from being a chin that never liked to be held, to one that would tolerate it for quite some time, so I do agree that they do get used to the handling and will calm down

I totally agree with Dawn. If you just leave them alone in the cage you will never get anywhere. My Chloe had a lot of health problems for a long time too. I spent months on and off handfeeding her. She became the biggest love bug. She actually wants to be picked up. She can't stand to be left alone in the play area. The more you handle them the better they get. They learn to trust you. www.youtube.com/watch?v=MYySkE7vUyA&feature=channel_page

i wouldnt worry about it, my girls will do it still today, Kari will shove my hand if i dont have what she wants or if she doesnt want to be pet, shes quite moody, some days ill leave her be and then she'll go pout others i pet and she doesnt want it. its like days where you just dont want to be hugged and some you do lol.
one thing ive been trying is slow dancing with kari when i hold her she seems to enjoy it, she calms down and looks around
