Okay, here goes. I'm planning to switch my chinnie boys to manna pro sho rabbit pellets .It is available in my area but only in 50lb bags.Does anyone know if I can feed this to my guinea pig???When you have as many four legged babies as I have, you have to stretch$$$ as far as you can. He is already supplemented with vitamin C so I don't think that would be a problem. Any ideas. Thanks

American pet diner has pellets that are for guinea pigs and chins, its formulated for both with Vit C added but if you can post what your piggies are on-the nutritional analysis then we can help further.

I used to use Mazuri chin and Mazuri guinea pig, and it was very close to the same formula, BUT I never straight up fed the chin pellets to the pigs. I did let them taste a few now and then, they thought it was a treat. I have the cavies on Oxbow now, because one boy reacted to the Mazuri with soft poop, like chins used to do before they added acidophilus to the chin mix. The best informational site for guinea pigs is www.guinealynx.com it has all the nutritional info you could ever need there.

I was about to make a post similar to this, but in opposite. So it is ok to feed chins Mazuri guinea pig pellets? I'm all out of pellets and I was wondering what I may use as a quick substitute till I get my order of mazuri chin pellets. I'm not sure how long it will be till I get them. I noticed the guinea pig ones look alot alike. There's no feed stores that sell appropriate chin feed.

I think I would feed Kaytee Forti-diet or something like that before I would give them anything for another species, just in case. Or just straight hay for a day or two until you can get them some more pellets. Anything different would probably mess with their digestion too much, I would think. Can you overnight some pellets from somewhere, or drive far enough to get some? I wouldn't go more than a day or two without any pellets...

I like the mazuri pig formula better than the chin formula, JMO 21.5% protein and 4% fat is too much for adult non breeding chins.

Well all the local feed stores n petshops have...kaytee fiesta sunseed sunscription I think that has seeds in it charlie chinchilla They all suck! It's been 3 days without pellets. Should I buy one of these and pick out the bad stuff? I ordered pellets from Carise...I'm not sure how long this may take, seems like theres been a hold up with her orders. What about LM animal farms? Or guinea pig mazuri? These are my only choices

Thank you both for your help! I purchased the piggy mazuri. It looks and smells the same. I only had to pay $7 for a 5 lb bag. I went and sifted through the feed at petco ugh! Not only is it horrible, but they want like $12 for a 3 lb bag.
Anyways..I appologize for taking over your thread mercynursie!

Okay , I emailed the "research panel" about feeding my piggie the manna pro sho for rabbits. He emailed me back today. Much to my regret(my pocketbook's anyway)he said that there is "too much fiber and not enough grain/vit C/vit A for the nutritional needs of a guinea pig. Oh well, looks like it's the 50 lb bag of Manna Pro Sho for 2 little chins, but they're worth it!!!!! Just thought I would post the 411 for anyone else trying to be cheap UHUHUH pardon me ,economical.

Ok, guys I know I am being dificult but I am having trouble finding anything decent around here, and I am going to have to go the online route which I have never done before and hate to do unless this works. The petstore here carries Oxbow Cavy , and Oxbow rabbit pellets. Both are super expensive, but if I could use either one of those for a chin I would gladly pay the 20 bucks. I know they could order the chin food if they have the others...they just won't work with me...they don't care.

I wouldn't use another species' pellet on a permanent basis. It can be okay for a temporary fix, like until you can get the chin food in, but to permanently switch to a food designed for a different animal can only lead to long term health issues.
There's a breeder in Manitoba, contact her and see if you can buy pellets directly from her: perfectpals@mts.net She doesn't have a website...

Well, I don't know how respectable she is or anything, I just found her in the Breeder's Directory at www.chinchillaclub.com - BUT she might have pellets she can sell to you, at least.
