I never thought about it and im just curious so it doesnt scare me if it happens

I saw one tiny droplet of blood, once, and I just assumed one of my girls was in heat. I've never been able to tell when they are or aren't. I know Mish talks about them being "open" (down there) but it's not like I go and look or anything. They get bitchy periodically, but I can't tell whether that really has anything to do with it. I do call it PMS when they get like that, though.

Yeah, you pretty much have to go looking (down there) if you want to know if they're in heat. The majority of the time, if you don't go looking for it, you're not going to notice if there's not a male around. You MIGHT see some discharge or find a heat plug (looks like a waxy, odd-shaped stick), but the chins usually clean this up themselves before you ever notice it. They may get moody though.

The only way I know Spice goes into heat (since she has PMS 24/7/365) is the boys go nuts and act stupid.

That's how I can tell here. If the boys are acting abnomally nutty, chances are there is a female in heat!

Around what age do chins reach sexual maturity? At what age do females tend to go into heat?

I am no expert but I have heard of them getting pregnant as early as 12 weeks.

I got Amy when she was six months old, and the first few days I got her is when I noticed a tiny bit of discharge. I freaked for a couple minutes and then went.. "Wait, she's female..." and ran to look it up on the internet.

Chloe is going thru a heat right now. I noticed something was off about her last night as she didn't want any oats, and being that this is Chloe and we've been thru so much together I freak out. The first thing she stopped eating when she was really sick was treats. She wanted nothing to do with them. So I pull her out and I inspect her from nose to toes and I found discharge and that she was open. I figure maybe she's just got the icky pms feeling and didn't want the oats. She's eating hay and pellets and her weight is normal so I'm just going to keep a close eye on her.

Yes, there have been a few cases of kits getting pregnant because they weren't separated from their brothers soon enough, as early as ten weeks. It's not common, but can happen. The average chin hits maturity by or at six months. Their weight gain will start to taper off at this age because of this. Heat cycles occur every 25-35 days and last up to 5 days.

In all honesty I've never seen any changes with the girls. I'm not exactly sure of age. From what i was told Chi Chi should be a yr this month! Layla I was told was younger than her when i got her,but I find it hard to believe. She's suppose to be 7-8 months, this I have a lil doubt with. None the less I've never seen them act different, spot blood or discharge,or seen any heat plugs.
Klondike I've never heard a mating call from. So that's why I was asking,I didn't know if they were too young, but I believe they are all over the age of 6 months. All I've ever seen is tail wagging.

Yup, Sybil goes every 28 days approx. and has discharge and extra bad attitude. I can usually tell there's discharge without looking because she tends to groom her lower extremities more frequently than the rest of the month. I usually give her a rosehip and an extra wide berth (outside the splash zone).

I find with some of my females you will notice a mood change but that is only in a very few. A small amount of discharge I think is pretty normal.
