I thought I'd also add I know you are getting lots of advice, and don't want you to feel overwhelmed. However, the chin safe hideout in the picture has way too much sugar for chins. I know it's made out of hay, but it also has lots of honey in it.

Nothing sweet should be given to the babies for at least 6 months. Even then it should be limited. PLEASE get that mother to a vet. You did a really good thing by taking chins from a bad situation, but the only way to make it better is to provide them with everything needed. The female is in a lot of pain. If you cannot get her to a vet, try finding a rescue that might be able to take her. If the mother cannot get the proper nutrients, then she cannot pass the needed nutrients to her babies. Worse than that, the nursing kits are going to take necessary nutrients from her, leaving it even more difficult for her to get well. If you would like to keep the male and female together, you need to look into getting the male neutered. She SHOULD NOT breed again. There is some great info here on this site. Just take it one step at a time. Also, make sure you have a formula that you can hand feed the kits with in case the mother is not producing properly. If you take her to the vet and it is incredibly severe and she need to be put to sleep, you have to be able to feed the babies yourself throughout the day. Good luck, and definitely keep us posted with the mom and babies progress!!

I have recently taken in 2 girls with malo. Your mommy chin sounds like she has it. I don't know if you realize that when she eats, it feels like razors digging into her gums with every bite she takes. Malo is very painful and she needs to see a vet like Dawn said ASAP. Please, please take her to see the vet and have her teeth taken care of.

I hate to be cynical here, and I hate to say it,but I expect only the worse. She never once mentioned making an appointment to the vet like everyone had encouraged *sigh*

The whole cage set up is alarming. The water is in a cup and I don't see any hay. I really don't think she "got it".

Well, aside from the problem at hand, I must say that all the ugly things that cnq tries to say about our members is sooooo off base!! If this was posted there... Whew.. Need I say more?!? I can't believe the thread started with a sick chin then, whoops babies!! Whatta surprise!! I hope the vet was seen and the kits are well!! Lets not forget about the lonely Poppa!! That sounds like a more difficult situation then mine... I feel like life is an easy street now!! Please keep us posted!! THESE ARE THE DAYS OF OUR LIVES!! (shedding light)

definately get her teeth checked, drooling is a sign of teeth problems. it could just be as simple as a point, or serious as true malo with route elongation, either way only the vet can tell. and get rid of those plastic shelves asap. chewing them and if they ingest the plastic can be lethal. you can replace the shelves with those wood ones they sell or here is a link for a different type of shelf too. i have both. www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=6326i personally don't use the ladder, but the shelf is great.

Just for the record, drooling is not always teeth, drooling can also be a sign of digestive upset. Also, you can have malocclusion without tooth elongation, you can have malocclusion with tooth elongation and you can have tooth elongation without malocclusion.
