Yeah, that is my point as well. If you are really thinking about getting both, your best bet would be to get a bigger cage, even if you have to sacrifice furniture for it. Tara threw out a whole couch to get another cage in her living room...

Haha I tried to throw it out! We ended up just getting crafty with cage placement and dependant on the season the cages have to be flip flopped so they are not near the radiator.

Yeah, now we're talking Kara... throw out all the living room furniture and put up wall to wall cages with chins in them instead. Tara, I was thinking you were talking about Susan's boys that Barbi got and they are definitely not brothers but now I realize that you were referring to KR's boys. I don't know if they are brothers or not.

I could always use a love seat for our family room. Can you lug it down four flights of stairs and then ship it to me?

You know, for someone who said I was going to shut up and let others say their piece... I haven't stopped yapping. Okay, I'll shut up now 'cause it's time to let the furballs out. ;D

Ok we've talked it over and now we're thinking of springing for the next height up if we get the two of them.... it's 30X18X48. Divided in half each chin would get 30X18X24? and that would be temporary. The plan has always been to build a bigger cage once we had the space and we hope to have the space in the next 2-3 years. Andrew would keep a perfect fitting board on hand. if we have to separate. Also we'd probably purchase a quarantine cage if one got sick....that much is common sense if you're getting two of any animal I think.
How does that sound?

Sounds good to me. You really never know if they'll get along or not but chances are good that two baby brothers will be fine. If you keep a really close eye on them you can usually clue into little signs of stress such as sudden fearfulness or fur missing and then you have to step in immediately and separate them.

Jack and LJ shared a womb and a cage for the first 2-3 years of their life. Then they started fighting and I had to separate them.
Now, this may have happened anyway but at the time we had Miss Sybil in the same room because we had just moved and no spot to put her at the time.
She now is living in my youngest daughter's room, but the boys still fight with each other initially when they get out for play at the same time. Usually a short quarrel and then they go about their business. (They rarely - if ever - get playtime together anymore)
Maybe you will have better luck.

Sorry for the slow reply...(I've tried to stay off the forums over the weekend to try to get ready for the Dec. rush.) Rigel & Sirius, brothers, are the ones that were having an issue. I think that started because Chipper escaped while the brothers were in QT and might have gotten into R & S's area. They are back together now and absolutely no signs of trouble between them. When R & S came out of QT we gave them playtime in the corral and Sirius went straight to M & C's cage and Chipper & him went immediatley to trying to bite each other through the bars. Now we have them all housed as pairs again and take 1 cage out of the corral before giving the other 2 playtime and this is working beautifully. So there was trouble in the brothers' cage, but I think it was because Rigel felt threatened by Chipper...I hope that makes sense the way I've worded it. Mason & Chipper are not brothers and have been together for over a year with never a sign of trouble.

There is always a chance that brothers will fight so you just never know. But everyones ideas for having a big enough cage to seperate them should this happen is the best idea so far. The pics of Tara's cage are great and will give you some tips on how to set it up for them.

BTW - my twins only started to fight long after I had them bonded with Mouse. So I had a bonded trio for a while. Then Mouse started to bully bugs and Monkey got in on the action too. So now Bugs has one level of the FN and Mouse and Monkey who are still bonded have 2 levels. I would love to get a secon FN 142 for BUGS and let Monkey and Mouse have the three level.
Even with a bonded pair you should have two of eveything so they have less to fight over 2 wheels, 2 water bottles, 2 food dishes, 2 hay bins...
